Description
The Bissell standpipe water tower in north St. Louis. There used to be hundreds of these across the country in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There are only 7 left standing in the US. It's main function was to regulate water pressure. The fire department would hook into these as needed. The tower was built in 1886 and is close to 200 feet tall.
