Description
The St. Louis Art Museum was built for the 1904 World's Fair as the Palace of Fine Arts. It was the only building built to be a permanent addition to Forest Park other than an outdoor pavilion. The sculpture was at the World's Fair as well, but made of plaster. Officials saw it and commissioned this bronze version. It was complete in 1906 and placed at the Art Museum. The sword has been stolen numerous times and replaced.
