Description
Thurmond is now a ghost town at the bottom of the New River Gorge. It started to decline in the great depression and was mostly vacant by the 1940s. The National Park Service was a visitor center there now. The last building in this photo is the national bank of Thurmond and farther down the tracks is the coal loader structure.
