Description
Excelsior geyser used to be one of the largest geysers in Yellowstone. In the past, it used to erupt as much as 300 feet high. In the early 1900's, one eruption pretty much destroyed the underground plumbing that made it a geyser. It is still a massive hot spring. In 1985 it did come back with a few eruptions around 80 feet high, and in the early 2000s it had large boils of about 10 feet high. Thermal feature are always changing, so it may again one day be a spectacular geyser.
